Tips for effective Web Search:

Search engines are pop tools for locating web pages, but they often return thousands of results

Make a clear strategy before using a search engine otherwise it will be like wandering aimlessly
in the stacks of a library trying to find a particular book.

Identify the main concepts in your topic and determine a synonym, alternate spellings or
variant word forms for the concepts.

Know how to use the various tools available on the internet. e.g
Search Engines are very different than Subject Directories

   Use implied ( +, - ) and Boolean logic (AND, OR, AND, NOT) phase ( words within double
      quote e.g., "global warming") searching, truncation or wildcards (*) and field
      (title, domain, host, URL and link) searching effectively.

Use meta-search engines. Meta Search engines search several major engines at once.
They do not keep voluminous databases of their own major search engines do.

Preparing Your Search:

Step-1: STATE WHAT YOU WANT TO FIND

State what you want to find on the internet.
For example: I want to find information on popular methods of losing weight.

Step-2: IDENTIFY KEYWORDS

Underline the main concepts in the statements.

Step-5: CHECK YOUR SPELLING

Search engines return websites with words that match your keywords. If you misspell a keyword,
your results will contain websites where that word is also misspelled
