Indo-Myanmar Border Trade Promotion:

The Indo-Myanmar Border Trade was inaugurated on 12/04/95 by the then Union Minister of State for Commerce, as a follow-up measure of the Trade Agreement signed between the two countries on 21st January, 1994, at New Delhi. Subsequently, the residents have allowed 22 items as exchangeable across the border. The main role of the Department of Commerce and Industries is to act as a liaison agent for promotion of border trade between India and Myanmar.

 

Export Processing Zone (EPZ):

Under the initiation of NEC, the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), New Delhi had visited Moreh during March, 1996 to assess potentiality of creating infrastructural facility and submitted a consultancy proposal to NEC for establishment of an EPZ near the hills of Kondong Lairenbi Temple about 3 Kms. from Moreh on NH No. 39.

The proposed project report will consider facility relating to the following:

  1. Power
  2. Transport
  3. Warehousing/Handling
  4. Research, Development and Training Institutes
  5. Telecommunication
  6. Civic facilities
  7. Business Centre
  8. Employment Generation
  9. Institutional arrangements and linkage
  10. Financing Agencies

     

The Stale Government has approached the North Eastern Council for assistance in setting up one EPZ project but so far there is no positive response. The total cost of EPZ is estimated at Rs. 100.00 crores.
